Can’t believe I need to say this, but racism and sexism aren’t because of capitalism.

I can't believe you're saying this, because it's 100% at odds with reality.

I haven't been alive THAT long, but I'm pretty sure racism and sexism were around before capitalism was.

Based on what data? I'm drawing most of my conclusions from Howard Zinn's work, particularly A People's History of the United States. If you have other contradictory research, I'd love to read it.

The fact is when you reduce the race and gender struggle in America down to class alone, it ignores the very real experience that these people face. Like I’ve had a couple dozen convos where I was told this was their biggest turn off of the left. The erasure of their identity.

So capitalism & racism are two arms of imperialism used to exploit people for a few. Class & race are used to divide people up. If you eliminate wealth disparity there will still be racism but less. If you eliminate racism there will still be classism. You can’t deny either.

The U.S was founded on imperialism, the raping & pillaging of people deemed lesser for economic resources. It was for $ but the excuse was racism. To argue which is more important is pointless. But we do need to understand we won’t ever get people on our side if we don’t do both.

Looking at class & not race, minimizes the plight of people who also endure economic strife AND racism as well. They won’t get past that & join the fight against capitalism if we don’t tackle racism also. It has to be both, especially in this country & imperialism is racist.

When you look at who we bomb & who we conquered you see we did this to Native Americans, Black people, Latin & Asian nations. To say there’s no racial element in that is dishonest. But it’s for money to keep the corrupt system going. Malcolm X & Fred Hampton understood this well.
