I want everything @IlhanMN said to happen. We must dismantle the systems of oppression which include police, military & the entire system it operates under. No truer words have been spoken by a congress member in a long time. It’s brave & we’re with her.pic.twitter.com/Ul8K0oo6ca
There’s a difference between peoples military & moral actions like pro racist/slavery statues and the religion people choose to follow. Not sure how you don’t see a difference. You and I don’t speak for Ilhan or anyone else with a religious belief even if we don’t agree with it.

As long as her or anyone’s religion doesn’t apply to our way of government we maintain secularism. You’re asking us to dictate someone’s religion which is ironically the opposite of secularism.

It is particularly troubling that an elected official wears a symbol of oppression of women. What the symbol says is that women are mere objects, and must be covered up because they have no agency of their own. The symbol is now signaled to others of the same culture.

Not all women wear it bc they have to though. Some women want to. If they want to I’m not going to get them to hear my POV by discrediting them unfit to make their own choice. That in itself is suggesting they’re unable to do so. I don’t have to agree with her religion
