Remember when some on the left said that UBI was just a “libertarian Trojan horse?” Yeah, that didn’t age well. And it most likely contributed to why we can’t get it done now.

It can be though. The way Yang wanted to do it was take away social safety nets. Which then is a libertarian Trojan horse. It’s been proposed by many capitalists because of it. It’s only good if it keeps social safety nets & expands on them.

UBI is by definition a safety net. Giving people the freedom to opt in does nothing to weaken/take away their safety net, it does the exact opposite.

What gives people freedom is controlling the means of production. People won’t have freedom if they have 1000 a month, but a 3000 rent, $8 min wage and inflation on goods with no healthcare.

I don’t know a single person who makes $8/hour and pays 3k in rent and if I did I probably wouldn’t feel bad for them.

Well then you have zero empathy bc what’s happened is wages have been stagnant and people face higher rents. The point I’m making is if you have 0 social safety nets nothing is going to stop a landlord from increasing rent & if you firm have healthcare covered nothing will help.
