Remember when some on the left said that UBI was just a “libertarian Trojan horse?” Yeah, that didn’t age well. And it most likely contributed to why we can’t get it done now.

He didn't want to 'take away' anything. He wanted to offer a better alternative to programs that were cash and cash-like. It wouldn't touch any other programs. We've seen how inefficient means-testing is with this stimulus, so why not improve upon existing programs too?

He wanted to remove and cut welfare and aid. 1000 isn’t enough when you’re cutting into social security. If you make people only reliant on 1000 and make it so there’s no rent control, no demanded min wage you are effectively letting the market do what it wants & ppl are at risk.

UBI is by definition a safety net. Giving people the freedom to opt in does nothing to weaken/take away their safety net, it does the exact opposite.

What gives people freedom is controlling the means of production. People won’t have freedom if they have 1000 a month, but a 3000 rent, $8 min wage and inflation on goods with no healthcare.
