Uh... how does Yang intend to fund UBI? -tax dollars Look, I am very much in favor of UBI - but Yang’s version of it leaves much to be desired. He has not put together a progressive case for it - instead he’s advocating for dismantling existing social programs to offset costs.

Oh I thought we were talking about how integrity matters. If it did, you would know better than to say things that simply aren't true about Yang dismantling programs. Or comparing using other people's money to using personal funds.

Yang has repeatedly said he would help pay for UBI by eliminating other social programs. Once he faced pushback on that he since backpedaled a bit and now says he will issue UBI to people if they give up other social programs (so it’s not even UBI anymore).

Early on he absolutely did. He has since pivoted and said he wouldn’t eliminate those programs but he would “consolidate” them. His own website still proudly lists that as a way he plans to pay for the program.

Furthermore, his plan is *NOT* unconditional. When you are making people choose between current benefits and the “Freedom Dividend” then you are assigning a condition to the payout.

Implementing his plan hinges on reducing cost of other welfare programs by reducing participation in those programs. To claim he isn’t trying to eliminate them is splitting hairs at best. He is effectively advocating for dismantling them in favor of a *conditional* income.

His plan also still does nothing to address the underlying problems with capitalism that have lead us to the economic disparity we have today. All it does is mask the problem and push it down the road for someone else to deal with. UBI is a good idea - but not his version of it.

Sure but that’s not a reason to NOT give people a living wage. That’s a reason to demand corporations pay their fair share of taxes & give small businesses huge tax cuts for the backed up debt & unfair balance they’ve endured. That would fix the issue. Not just 1000 w inflation
