Thread: This Resolution is NOT the same Senate Bill Bernie voted on, so stop equating them. Though I’m unhappy w/ the vote & still waiting for explanations from the progressives who voted yes, I have to point out factually they are 2 separate docs. The first in January was S.1...

This is what Sanders said regarding the 1st S1 Bill: He does not support BDS. So we can stop affirming he does. The bill he voted against was bc of the free speech component.pic.twitter.com/esvbF9N8LF

We have to do better. Listen. An explanation of the issue is not a defense of the vote. I think some ppl miss that pt. As a journalist I have to give facts first. My opinion might be very different. And it is. I wanted to clarify the lack of facts I’ve been seeing on twitter.

My opinion is we need to end Israeli occupation on lands. We need to end the genocide by focusing on boycotting, divesting, mainly weapons from the U.S to Israeli. That’s how Israel commits their crimes. But realistically IMO our gov is a long way from doing that.

Lastly we need to be able to have these discussions w/o calling everyone an anti Semite or anti-Palestinian. We can’t just look at votes w/o understanding context. Who wrote it. What’s the interests who’s pushing what. What’s changed. Etc. Unfortunately the left can’t do that.

Now as far as the second one, here is the reality explained. They voted no bc they wanted to keep the option of a “two state solution” on the table & some like Gabbard were not okay w/ language. These are facts I’m stating. Now if you want to hear my opinion on it read on.pic.twitter.com/tCYCbJruUV

It’s too powerful an institution & we should focus on getting their power out of our gov & on stopping the sale of arms to Israel. We won’t begin to do that until we elect the most progressive person for the job. And that ironically might be one of those who don’t support BDS.

Did you not read the docs? The links are there. Also Bernie’s quote is there too. “I do not support the BDS movement.”

Not a single one of our POTUS candidates supports BDS. It’s going to take a while to get them to. But at the very least they need to do better than rejecting this w/o giving us quick, fast solutions for the Palestinian people. AIPAC SHOULD NOT EXIST W SUCH POWER.
