Teen Titans Go specifically is weird to see people complain about, especially people who also love The Amazing World of Gumball. Those shoes both have mostly the same ethos, and the only reason TTG gets a bad rap is because it's a follow-up.

Fuck yeah, adding to to-read list... quick heads up though, the image captioned as "The original Thundercats" is not actually of the original show, but the remake CN didin 2011 (and obviously didn't take off)

I was a fan of the original and I adore the new look. The stilted 'realism' of the original was a carbon copy of he-man and a million other cheap muscles&tanks cartoon styles meant to sell head-swapped action figures.

If your concern is that they're remaking the Godfather in blobular animation, sure. Makes sense that's gonna cause some whiplash. But when you decry a kids cartoon looking like a kids cartoon..?
-
haha, even if they made godfather into a kids cartoon, weirdly my first question would be "is it any good?"

Total agreement here. I also loved ThunderCats as a kid (I still have a love affair with Rankin-Bass character designs). But this weird Peter Pan reverence and possessiveness toward 80s animation seems poisonous and regressive to me.

Unpopular opinion: I still don’t understand why Transformers are a thing for adults now.

Great writing and you've given me a lot of things to consider. But when I read articles like this, I can't help but get the feeling that while it is ok to profess one's love of a movie/tv series etc, there is a backlash when one says that they don't like it.
-
I can’t speak to everyone’s experience. What I can say is I work in animation, and this past week artists etc were targeted with some pretty nasty behavior online - from violent rhetoric, to saying the crew should lose their jobs over this show. This wasn’t dislike. It was anger.
