That was my take- she told herself that he never loved her so she could turn on him and do what she thought was right. Seeing that he thought he loved her & was going to kill her anyway & she’d end up helping him against her will was the real emotional element for me.

That's the problem with the muddled nature for me, they were absolutely going for "this is secretly a pained choice he has to make" and I'm like, ok, if you're doing that, we have to get it. And if it's Gamora's POV, we have to get that, or if it's a metaphor, that.

The whole thing doesn't make a choice in any direction of what it's actually trying to play, instead coasting on three possible ideas, none of which actually coherent to the overall approach of the movie and character. That's the problem.

Like, I don't think it should be empathizing with Thanos INSTEAD, never-never. It's more the fact that it does a confused approach to both.
