I've been listening to @WeezerBracket which is a weirdly thoughtful and loving show. And it's been making me think a lot about my weird relationship to Weezer over the years. One that I don't think is entirely uncommon relationship...

Like I go back and watch this video and it's like... I can't explain how much this video meant back then. To see people who looked and acted like this because the "nerd cache" was the complete opposite of how it was now (in some ways). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENXvZ9YRjbo …

But the thing about that video is how sweet and innocent and raw and vulnerable it was... and when I look at what they do now, with all the pastiche and hallmarks of what they use to be in the 90s but no real substance... It just feels the same way I do w/r/t "The Simpsons" now.

Weezer is a band that should always be thought about. :)

You can never listen to the same band twice, for they are not the same band, and you are not the same listener. Sometimes music is just a time and a place and the zombie iterations of future bands shouldn't have anything to do with prior incarnations.

But with weezer this seems so extreme? Most bands don't seem so radically different in our hearts

As a younger person who enjoys Weezer's early music, it's weird to imagine a time when nerdy young white men who felt alienated from society (and frankly had sorta creepy opinions about women) just made fun songs about sweaters and stuff instead of becoming Nazis.
