But the thing about that video is how sweet and innocent and raw and vulnerable it was... and when I look at what they do now, with all the pastiche and hallmarks of what they use to be in the 90s but no real substance... It just feels the same way I do w/r/t "The Simpsons" now.

Yep. There’s no right or wrong way to write a song but they found as wrong a way as there is. That ep should have been called, “How to write a song without having to be creative”. The bit where they add some fake spontaneity was the icing on a shitty cake.

It's actually the opposite. It's using a very strange joke formula to get at the heart of the thing they love, that they know is also problematic, but they also can't help but keep loving, but also understand how to make fun of, but also keep loving. It's kinda wonderful.

I have always just assumed that authentic connection through a peice of art is just rare. And nearly impossible to keep up that kind of feeling from work to work. I'm very insecure and flawed. I don't know if I'll ever make something that connects with so many people.

If I did it once, I wouldn't except anything else to be more than anticlimax. It seems like it is all about that connection and appreciating it when it happens. It should be measured in peaks, I guess for sanity sake. The mystery seems to be in the consuming or continuing
