Things I have literally no interest in arguing about: -"checklist" thinking / defining what constitutes a masterpiece -CGI from the past -opinions in-and-of-themselves, without insight / explanations into the reason why.

Your old shot at a definition wasn't too bad: "A FILM THAT SEEK TO ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING (OFTEN VERY SPECIFIC) AND IT EXECUTE THAT GOAL (OR SET OF GOALS) FLAWLESSLY THROUGHOUT. [...] A MASTERPIECE HAS TO BE THE BEST POSSIBLE VERSION OF WHAT IT TRYING TO BE."

I kind of hate that now, but I was still in a regressive place. I hate the notion of flawlessness now.

I agree flaws for art are like flaws for people. They help to define us. To be without flaw is to be without character.

This is part of why I love the Holdo plot in TLJ. It’s flawed as all hell, but helps define much of the film’s internal philosophy. Plus I *want* my big Star Wars epic to be a sprawling mess sometimes.

I don't even think it's flawed. She had no reason to trust him, and thought empowering him would lead to him being irresponsible. Her mistake was trying to shut him down completely / box him in, his was not trusting, it's flawed because they were BOTH flawed.
