Similarly, this is the same reason I don't like when people refer to cinematography as having to "get out of the way" of performance. It views visual language as an inherent obstruction instead of the the tool by which you actually deliver the narrative to be experienced.

And it can either clarify or it can confuse, but it should always be used with motivation. The idea of just trying to "get out of the way" feels like squandering one of the expressive tools in your arsenal.
