I feel that this article would be improved by defining and/or giving an example of what you mean by “dramatizing” stakes, and how that’s distinct from what this movie did.

Sorry, I've just written about it so much I take the explanation for granted. This is a good primer from awhile agohttp://birthmoviesdeath.com/2013/07/03/film-crit-hulk-man-of-steel …

So what you're saying is, to understand this article, we need to go read another one? To make sure we understand all the concepts? Interesting...

I know this is tongue and cheek, but I don't need (or shouldn't) need to explain the core notion of dramatization every time I criticize dramatic portrayals. It's just having a primer to fall back on for those curious.

There is some truth to both sides sir. To your critiques and the MCU. No, you shouldn't have to explain the core notion. However, this gentleman asked for help, and you helped him. There is always someone who could use a primer. They should not need to explain either, 1/2

Yet, as you rightly point out, this lessens the immediate drama and impact for those not caught up yet. What I believe you left out is there are ways, unique to our time, for the drama to be present in the movie even if it is your first MCU. It's a legitimate critique sir. 2/2

Insisting there's truth to both sides is always a fallacy. Especially when you tell me there are ways for the drama to be present, and then don't say what they actually are, and then tell me it's all legitimate... I only care about the specifics.

Advanced arguments are only possible because of our common stored knowledge. You point out here, rightly, that you cannot restate basic dramatic tenants before each article. That is why I enjoy your writing, you build on earlier concepts to make grander ones.
