ICYMI - Have my first piece up for @ObserverArts and went deep into Infinity Wars & what we love / the deeper problems of the MCUhttp://observer.com/2018/04/avengers-infinity-war-movie-and-marvels-endless-endgame/ …

Spectacular. Especially in dissecting Thanos' motivation. Cause I do buy his "why" (history is rife with madmen who do bad things believing they're good) but you're right. There is no "why the why?" -- why TRULY does he believe in this insane obviously wrong philosophy?

Im so mad I forgot to mention the fact that the movie says his method WORKS - and that those planets are peaceful now. Yeah, killing off half a population literally destroys the infrastructure of society and how it functions. Everyone else would die too.

Yes it's a weird direction. Like you say, in a narrative vacuum it almost is making the movie say "Sometimes the bad guy really IS right" which is insane.

There's something missing there in how it could have made a statement on what happens when the powerful people allow the most vulnerable to get crushed and what the horrible result of that could be.

Sort of a "Treaty of Versailles/Rise of Nazism" allegory. But there was none of that. It was just "He's Insane!" Which is so frustraingly inert for such an alive movie. Thank you for helping me contextualize that for myself.

He says it to Gamora about her home planet.

I had that exact thought in the post credits when the helicopter hits the building- the aftermath would kill another huge % of the remaining population. Its literally impossible that a planet could thrive after.

Oh, shit - all of our doctors and engineers were on the “kill everyone” side of the street. WTF do we do now?
