Also I can't believe I forgot to mention the basic problem with Thanos, which is that his approach with the population thing was actually WORKING so far... which leads me to have many, many notes.

It's always a good day when the FCH and I agree on a movie and we're on the same page with Infinity War. Your book might be a little bit thicker than mine but definitely had similar content this time around. Tortured metaphor there but I'm excited to keep reading Hulk content.

Spectacular. Especially in dissecting Thanos' motivation. Cause I do buy his "why" (history is rife with madmen who do bad things believing they're good) but you're right. There is no "why the why?" -- why TRULY does he believe in this insane obviously wrong philosophy?
-
Im so mad I forgot to mention the fact that the movie says his method WORKS - and that those planets are peaceful now. Yeah, killing off half a population literally destroys the infrastructure of society and how it functions. Everyone else would die too.

I feel that this article would be improved by defining and/or giving an example of what you mean by “dramatizing” stakes, and how that’s distinct from what this movie did.
-
My intuition is that if I care about the stakes, then they were successfully dramatized. I suppose my definition is more concerned with the experiential outcome than the storytelling specifics.
