I'd expect nothing less tbh

It’s a really strange feeling having seen certain imagery that’s all kinds of affecting, but your heart is polar opposite of the brain. You understand things can change, but to still see it played out full is rough. I’m Conan on the steps about this movie.pic.twitter.com/uPstUBlVQ9

It feels like one of the big issues is that the ending of Infinity War is what happens in, like, the first few pages of the original comic. Turning the opening catalyst into the first film cliffhanger seems to have not been a great idea.

I think there IS a way to tell this story and not lose stakes - But it would involve Thanos as the protagonist of the story rather than Avengers. Which is largely the way it is told in the comics: Thanos v. Adam Warlock (although that storyline suffered from this problem too).
-
But even there, it's explicitly said over and over by Adam that the Avengers are merely pawns and their actions are meaningless. They have their moments of true heroics, but they aren't the central characters.
