And the amount of times I've seen mistreatment of crews from idealistic filmmakers who constantly put the mission/movie before the people, belies the entire message of the idea in the first place (it's no accident christian messaged movies tend to be one of the worst offenders).

So to nobly take on something with grand purpose, means being responsible for the scope and people from day one. And if it becomes clear it is not achievable, you have to scale back, or be responsible and refund / pay crew / take the loss. But many cannot face that reality.

So I know exactly how this happens... and it happens when you constantly defer and hope instead of taking responsibility. Sometimes you have to learn that the hard way. And sadly, this message is yet another deferment. If you want to be for people, take care of people. Please.

Last summer I shot a feature film on no budget with a cast of less than 10 and a crew of less than 5. I made sure to always make sure they were fed, hydrated & safe. If I could do it on a dinky zero-budge production, anyone can. No sympathy for people who don't.
