One of the best things some films can do is have the decency to end in 90 minutes. Cut the bloat. Keep it tight.

Depends on the story truly. I've seen borefests of 90mins and epics of 3h. Length should never be a criteria for critiquing the final product.

When studios began thinking they could do 2h30m films with the stories of 90m films and stuff them with action set pieces to make up the difference.

Right, but thats clearly what were talking about. This isnt about TDK. Its about all the movies that think they can do TDK because they think thats "epic" and "better" without understanding a lick of how to do it.

Whereas emphasizing a tight 90 ideal, gets you thinking about how to tell your story in as functional a way as possible.
