I've been thinking about it since Cannes, but We Were Never Really Here is probably the most counter-intuitively-composed-yet-shockingly-effective movie since The Parallax View. I can think of no higher compliment.

I got to hear Lynne and Joaquin talk about it yesterday, and it sounds like a lot of the counter-intuitive things in the movie were the result of having 29 days to shoot after only having 8 weeks to do pre-pro. Decisions born out made a damn fine film.

Yah while watching it I just kept thinking "what the fuck is going on here why are they doing X Y and Z" and pretty much the second it was over I went "huh why is this feeling so famil- ohhhhhh shitttttt" and began the slow process of coming to terms with what I'd just seen.

The mere thought of going through the process of cutting that film together is so exhausting I can't imagine how anyone did it
