Thread / Rant: So about that B.S. "Solo" rumor mongering. I care less about obvious-politicized gossip. I care more about one of the deeper issues: chiefly, "the myth of know-exactly-what-they-want director."

You know the one I'm talking about. It's the idea that director has every single shot planned in their head and knows every detail and it all comes together like a swiss-clock... Yeah. It's bullshit.

You say this like I am unfamiliar with the process of storyboard / filmmaking, nor have been around this process countless times, nor seen the amount of time storyboards have gone perfectly / gone to hell and needed adaptation.

Simple example. Read the stories about how George Miller storyboarded fury road, was confident, and then how his DP was secretly going around getting insert shots and extra shots he thought were necessary. In the edit, Miller thanked him endlessly.

This isn't that Miller is "wrong," he's one of the great directors. It's just proof positive that production is part of the constant evolution of making choices and adapting to the situation at hand when the plan of storyboarding doesn't come through.

Or ask Del Toro, "storyboards are what we use if we can't come up with something better on the day." - The point of all of this is you're being almost laughably reductive and not listening to the core of what I'm talking about.

But by all means, continue you thinking you're one upping on me with the most basic possible filmmaking assumptions and that it makes me sad so you can feel a sense of superiority. You seem to need it or something.
