better than Chef’s Table?!?!

Way way waaaaay better. It comes at food as a way to share culture, politics and experiences rather than a specific chef's idea of food. Chef's Table is about the people who cook great food. Ugly Delicious is about great food and the people who eat it.

Really? bourdain always felt kind of like he was less about the food than the context around it. I’ve only seen a bit of his shows but would you recommend it? My gold standard for food shows, real or fictional is Gourmet Samurai.
-
Yes, Samurai Gourmet is pure and lovely. Only food-related show I'd put ahead of it is Good Eats.

Blows past the usual norm for food/cooking shows - expressing the nuance and complexities of food and culture as a whole. It's a masterpiece, especially those last four episodes.

It just made me so damn proud to be a Korean American. Haven't felt that in a very, very long time.
