A lot of people don’t realize that it’s possible to believe that Ava Duvernay is the victim of a harassment campaign by white dude bros while also thinking that A Wrinkle in Time was a tremendously bad movie while also being glad it inspired people. These are not incompatible.

What the world needs is room for female/minority filmmakers to fail. As we are now, EVERY major project led by one is the "can they break the ceiling" OR, follow me on this, we could just have a bunch of different people making movies

Just to make sure what you are saying: any filmmaker's (who happen to be women or member of a minority) failures shouldn't be assumed to be emblematic of a gender-/demographic-wide failure and further gatekeeping, correct? Because just saying "anyone can" ignores the problem.

I'm working on a whole article about it, but that scene is 100% lip service. Much like the wind river trying to have it both ways thing.

I'm for quotas. Everyone says diversity is important so let's do it. There's been too much hand wringing and not enough action.

I hope you’ve read Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison. I think you’d love it. As always, thank you.
