Agreed. I was so struck by all the tiny moments in Lady Bird that add up to such a big emotional payoff, I had to stop my "best of" list at 10. Gerwig aced it.http://www.justinkownacki.com/10-subtly-amazing-moments-lady-bird/ …

That was a great article. It was great to have pictures and you explain the framing, helped me understand a lot more. Also I had the exact same opinion on Wind River and I'm glad to see it written out. The whole "look how far she got" thing really bothered me when I saw it.

ive read & learned from you since 2011. I think you’re at your best when you’re bridging abstract/academic with the tangible/popular
-
ive become a film person since i started reading you, & i dont know anyone who articulates abstract themes/techniques in 101 terms as well

I read an interview with Sam Levy and he described how much of a collaborative process the cinematography was in the film. Basically him and Gerwig constantly discussing how the visuals fit the story and making sure visuals were "earned." And it showed.

He said Gerwig wanted it to feel like a vivid memory. As someone who was in Catholic HS in 2002, I would call the movie as visceral of an experience as something like Fury Road. It was SO real.
