My main takeaway from this rewatch of THE AVENGERS: The Battle of New York sequence is one of the greatest pieces of sustained movie action of the 21st century and doesn’t get its proper due.http://screencrush.com/the-avengers-revisit-history-of-the-mcu/ …

It’s also incredibly well shot and staged. It’s almost like *gasp* you don’t need shaky-cam to suggest chaos if you understand basic form and craft.

It's easily my favourite sustained climactic action scene of any blockbuster released between The Matrix and Fury Road. Along with bits of the Helicarrier sequence (Hulk grabbing the ejecting pilot!), for me it's enough to disprove the claim that Whedon is a poor action director.

If you haven't already, treat yourself to Joss's DVD commentary on the film. It's a 2-hour PTSD flashback of building a $220m plane as it rolls down the runway. That movie's a miracle.
