Is it bad that I think 3 Billboards is a better film than Get Out, which I liked a lot? Problematic non-centering of racism and all.https://twitter.com/FilmCritHULK/status/969743311475847168 …

If 3 Billboards beats Get Out, it's an utter repeat of Driving Miss Daisy winning in the year of Do The Right Thing. These are white people who like movies that secretly make them feel BETTER about racism, not confront them in any way. Again. Disgusting.

I can't say it's bad. I can say that I think 3 Billboard is deeply problematic on almost EVERY front and I can't understand how no one is talking about the problems with basic direction and cinematic language.I really really really don't like it.

Isn't it up for an Oscar or two? Not that that matters at all.

I preferred Get Out. I do think that a lot of people have been punked by the directors though - as, looking at their comedy sketches and other work, it seems clear that the film was very much a *parody* of the exact things people praised it for.

I definitely want to read that critique (and rewatch the film with a critical eye). I know Twitter ain't the place for detail, but what's your summary of the technical failings?

But why is no one talking about Phantom Thread being being best picture, when it is by far and away the best if the nominated films?

Yeah the scene in the kitchen that goes from cereal tossing, to domestic violence, to “is it a bad time to use the bathroom?” to heartfelt dining table conversation is imo the worst scene in any of the BP nominees (haven’t seen The Post)

Aside from the racial issues (it feels like it was made by the white people in Get Out), nobody in that movie acts or talks like a person. I canNOT get why anyone likes it.

Sounds like someone needs to write an article. Or, you know, direct me to an article discussing this.
