Don't worry. These kinds of students will end up failing and it's not because their taste is "too esoteric" and hollywood's "too BS" - it's that it's because their humanity is too esoteric. And they'll never realize it.

Jesus, talk about reaching and being judgmental. It’s a Marvel Film where people always end up punching each other in the face, it’s not your mother.

I, and many others, argue it is a lot more than that. But don't defend judgmental people by saying we're being judgmental or else we'll fall down a reflexive rabbit hole. Cheers.https://filmcrithulk.blog/2018/02/17/black-panthers-right-thing/ …

Well, being judgmental when it comes to movies is a whole lot different than being judgmental towards people based on what they say about a movie where people punch each other in the face.

I think you need to learn more about movies and quite making ridiculous assumptions that just because a movie has punching / genre elements, doesn't mean it doesn't have deep thoughts. This is cinema 101.

Critics used to use the exact same language to hate on pulpy noir films, when really it was the birth of brilliant ideas and american cinema. It is both the height of arrogance and judging books by covers. Do better. Really. You can. You're just not trying.

You probably shouldn’t focus on one single phrasing written in jest (I agree with u) and ignore the actual content of what I’m saying. You basically predicted someone’s career based on what they think of a Marvel movie. That’s just ridiculous, punching or not. Can’t you see that?

I’m surprised you’re capable of that level of uninformed judgement. I enjoy your writing and your book, but this is a bad look. You don’t even know why they consider the film heinous and you seriously jump to predicting their career in academia?! “You can do better. Try it!”

Not just their success in academia, but their humanity!! To contrast that, I mentioned the punching in the face to make you realize how crazy your statement is. You don’t know these people and you judge them harshly based on what they think of Black Panther. Wow.

Dude, you have to be able to understand when a prediction is really a warning. An if then. And trust me, I've seen this a hundred times before, again and again, this is how it goes. Don't get lost in it. If you listen to me elsewhere, do it here too.

It’s a silly warning, then. I want to tell the people of this world to not question their humanity if they happen to not like Black Panther. And I’m sorry, while I do respect you as a writer, I’m not going to trust you on everything just because. You don’t get a carte blanche.

Real question: why does this bother you so much?
