How long have you got lol. Like all great Kiwi filmmakers, Taika has his own voice and pov on the material. In his case he lets his sense of humour guide him as much as his thirst for fun and entertaining. I know his humour. It's our humour....

So yeah I loved it because I recognised it. But I also appreciated how he made the characters the most relatable we've seen. He's very sneaky too. Like you say, he's building in references to things that mean something to him and he's making his own secret commentary on them.

I like to think Marvel knew exactly what they were getting when they hired him. But I suspect they were more likely so desperate to make a break from what came before that they just gave him the keys and trusted whatever he did would be a point of difference. The rest is all him.
