In short, they're too busy identifying that they're missing the larger horrific context that looms within it. Which sort of makes it a metaphor for toxic behavior itself.

Probably because BoJack is consistently portrayed as a self-sabotaging "loser" while Rick regularly gets to be the cool badass.

Rick and Morty really seems to walk the line. They aren't afraid to show how broken he is (see the unity ep) but the whole construct of the show demands he keeps winning. Hard tightrope to walk.
