It is easy. In most other movies I think I’d feel dumping backstory was a cop out, but it works so well there. Can you think of any other movies that have 70+ years of development in the first minutes and the move on?

It's not about cop-out, it's about purpose. In most other movies a 10 minute prologue wouldn't add to the nature of a story. For this movie, one about one last adventure in old age, it needs all of it to set the stage. A lot of other movies just don't need it.
