Nice ideas and instincts. No coherence and discipline.https://twitter.com/chubrockgeek/status/962616232561197056 …

Recently Spec Ops: The Line became backwards compatible on the Xbox One. My question is have you played that? And if so, what are your thoughts?

You're right that the game's a bit of a mess but next to The Last of Us, it's the most intense emotional experience I've had playing a game and I think that it deserves praise for that.

For whatever reason it hit me harder than THE LAST OF US did. I think it's messy and unfocused, but that kind of adds to why it works for me. Gameplay wise, I think both kind of suck.

I need to play it again. I originally thought it was going to be standard shooter fair but was blindsided by the story and I adored it. However that was many years ago, I wonder if my opinion will change now.

I find it still holds up, I feel like their symbolism and story holds up under several layers of analysis which makes for interesting replays.

I felt like the game was talking to some imaginary person sitting next to me the whole time. Their deconstruction didn't have any bite.

I totally see where you're coming from, as on my 3rd, 4th, up to 8th playthrough over the years (can you tell I like this game?) the game grew gradually more stale, especially on lower difficulty. But I prefer to see the game less as a 3PS and more as a puzzle game.

It was weird that the choices the game most condemns you for making are the ones that you... actually needed to take in order to progress in the game? i.e. not a choice. The game forced you into playing a certain way then called you a bad person for playing that way.

Think I would have liked it better if it hadn’t been so hyped and I hadn’t heard people say “the ending will gut you” and such, because I was just spending the whole game waiting to have my mind blown instead of just experiencing it for wat it was.

super flawed and a million holes but a game has never left me so emotionally exhausted before to the point I had to take a break from shooters
