Lobo's maybe the most indulgent, regressive characters I can think of. He gets a lot of attention because he's "outrageous," but really he has the most static & boring power fantasy: he doesn't care about anything.

Seriously, that's his allure. Pure nihilism, and not even in that fun way. There are no joker-like lulz. It's just grim dark release from the agony of caring about life. Lobo is the murder-suicide instinct personified.

And my greatest worry with a property is someone coming along who actually is a fan / attracted to that deep part of the power fantasy. The movie could get real shitty, real fast. And not on the surface, but in the ugly more invisible ways that keep me up at night.

Enter Bay: who is much stranger filmmaker than we give credit for, especially how he treats power and character motive. For further thoughts, here's an old article where I deep dive into the endlessly bizarre psychology. http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2014/07/01/film-crit-hulk-smash-hulk-vs.-michael-bay …

But I'll say this: if his version of Lobo has more Bad Boys 2 in it than it does the comic, then you're onto something much more... well not healthier... just different. And I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm curious.

Well, sort of. Conan is regressive and indulgent. But his character is anything but boring when handled right.

probably the most fitting superhero for Bay (Booster Gold would have been a good one too)

Lobo was created as a parody of 90s excess exemplified by characters like Wolverine and Spawn, but eventually became the thing he was meant to mock due to later creators not getting the joke.

I'd argue Joseph Kahn would be a better pick, based on Power/Rangers alone. That, like Lobo, was a pisstake embraced by those whose piss was being taken.

I honestly couldn’t think of a worse director that DC could pick to try and get the Snyder taste out of everyone’s mouths. Even as a one off movie which Lobo would likely be. Snyder is Bay with a grim filter on the camera
