At least the satire on SNL anyway.

Satire is a hard thing to get right.

Weren’t there conservatives who watched Colbert Report in earnest? It’s not going to reach the people who don’t already see it as satire, if that makes sense. It’s mostly balm for people who would have to cry at the world otherwise.

Those were largely legendary. I'm sure there were a few, but there's a few of literally every kind of person.

Well, Cecily Strong's Melania is usually a fairly sympathetic figure. Almost a victim being married to Trump, rather than it being a choice she made.

Or, and maybe this is giving Melania too much credit/sympathy, Strong's impression frames the first lady as someone essentially consigned to this life while being indifferent to the man she married, and it speaks a recognizable truth to the real Mrs. Trump.

it's how you tell you've *failed* at satire. Which is really easy to do, if you're aiming at subtle satire. But subtle satire isn't the only way to do satire. For example, Shaun Micallef interviews “spokesweasels”. Blunt trauma satire is still a thing, and much less fraught.

Like L Armstrong in Tour De Pharmacy, am I supposed to think your satire is serious when the subject of the takedown is laughing with you?
