Mini-thread: There are a million things to talk about in the Uma story, many of which we've been talking about before. But the new shade of on-set safety is pertinent: because the job is to keep people safe. That's it.

My only question is, what happens when you can’t trust the trained professionals? I’m infinitely more suspicious of them after Joel Kramer.
-
If your take away from any of that story is to apply it to one type of job and not humanity at large I have literally no idea what to tell you.

When I read the article, I thought "If Death Proof, the movie he made after the car accident, has Zoe Bell, The Bride's stunt double, and Rose McGowan in a blonde wig dying in a car accident, what does THAT mean?"
-
I'm guessing it's the actions of the id, and it happens with a lot of art... It's also my least favorite of his, but I don't think that has anything to do with anything.

On set safety goes out the window when you have a director with auteur-level respect. The Teamsters warned her. Tarantino had final say, and he coaxed her into it. I will never again support his work, though he was already dead to me after his complicity in Weinstein’s actions.
-
This has less to do with Tarantino’s safety compliance and everything to do with his perceived ownership of Thurman’s body. She was a tool that he was ready to exploit if it served his vision. Spitting in her face? Putting her in danger to get the shot? It’s about control.

And even in the event where the person is well trained and skilled... there should still be more than one way to shoot the scene that doesn't involve risk to the actors or those around them. No matter how much the director wants to capture their flowing hair perfectly.

And all that for a five second shot of blonde hair flapping in the wind! Like...fuck's sake, if you can't get a stunt driver behind the wheel, just grab a damn fan and greenscreen it. Christ.

Not a movie, but this brings to mind Owen Hart (the wrestler) not being comfortable performing the stunt that would take his life. Either use someone who can do it, or don't do it.
