I know we lionize the work of Jackie and Tom Cruise, but we have to remember that they *are* stunt people. They've done the actual training. They have the expertise.

Meaning there is nothing that Cruise is going to "wing" that day on set. They go through every possible issue and outcome. Especially with car safety.

All of this matters. There is no reason to push anyone into anything they're uncomfortable with when you have trained professionals for whom this is their literal job. Because all of this matters. The job is to keep people safe.

This is why (and I say this as a massive Friedkin fan) I always felt icky about the lionization of his approach (especially regarding French Connection). If literally one thing went wrong someone could have died. No movie is worth that.
