You can't have a civil discussion about inherently uncivil ideas.

There were indeed tons of inane arguments against Episode 8, but that doesn't negate that plenty of good people (far-left people in this context) had fair reasons to not love or even dislike the movie.

What is your point with what the hell i said then. Or is it just the ridiculous fear you are getting lumped in with awful people?

A bit of part B, also the fact it's unfortunate that the conversation on SW8 has been ruined by extremes and reactions thereof. That's also true of some other recent blockbusters and so many of us may just check out of fandom.

I saw plenty of normal, sane people love, be lukewarm to, or despise SW8. I think that's interesting but two weeks later we're largely reacting to the 47-minute fan edit.

I literally haven't seen a single reasonable damn argument.

I can see why you'd be more worried about that given your success, which has the side effect of making you a troll magnet. But I know some of these people well, many of whom don't participate online fandom, I'm confident that they're not recycling toxic shit.

I liked (did not love) the movie, anyway here are some critiques I found reasonable. 1) Prank calling the first order shouldn't work as an attack strategy. Aren't these fights meant to be metaphors of WWII naval battles? 2) No explanation for Snoke. We'll have to read the books.

how in gods name are either of those valid story criticisms and not 1) im arguing about nonsense logic over joking tone and 2) i wanted more nonsense backstory to this character that doesn't need it

The first one was distraction and pulled me and others out of the film, as it was very unnatural. As for #2, I think Snoke warranted an explanation, he restored the empire, he's apparently a much stronger force user than everybody else, etc.

Seriously dude. Both of those things are inane and have literally nothing to do with compelling storytelling. Just post-script logic.

I disagree. In general I think that bad, unnatural jokes are very distracting. As for Snoke, the previous movies had explicitly established Anakin as the strongest known force user, and Luke as his equal. The fact that Snoke is vastly stronger than everyone else is confusing.

Regardless the EP8 discussion is poisoned, I hope that the general discussion is better for subsequent movies. Thanks for replying and explaining.
