@the_moviebob Just watched your video about "The Last Jedi". I really liked it, and totally agree on the reading of it as a deliberate meta narrative. However, about your comment about whether this was the right approach... well, I have a bad feeling about that one.

@the_moviebob I think that@FilmCritHULK put it very well in his review of "The Force Awakens": the themes of the original "Star Wars" trilogy, and even the prequels despite their clumsiness, were timeless. The sequels are about "Star Wars" itself. And that's a problem long term.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likesShow this thread -
@the_moviebob The problem with meta-narratives in general, but especially those of the kind the SW sequels are doing, is that they have a VERY short life span. Ie, most probably they will become very dated very fast. And there is a place where you can see it happening right now:1 reply 0 retweets 0 likesShow this thread -
@the_moviebob That place is China. The movie bombed spectacularly there. Naysayers say it's because the movie is bad, but I think it's because of that metanarrative. Chinese audiences just don't have the background needed with this franchise, so it can't resonate with them.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likesShow this thread -
@the_moviebob Now, I obviously can be wrong, but if the sequels don't pass the test of time, I wager this will be a big part of the explanation.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likesShow this thread -
Replying to @Xander_VJ @the_moviebob
To be clear though, I think the Last Jedi should be lumped nowhere near Force Awakens. It's a real movie, that upholds it's own themes beautifully. I think it's remarkable.
