I'm probably the only person who felt that Kelly should have died rather than uploading her consciousness to San Junipero. The speech about her husband believing in something more, and the possibility that she could join him, made me think she really believed it.
Not only that but Kelly didn't even believe in heaven. They wanted to die because their daughter didn't get a chance to upload.

Also can I be honest? I think we need to take a second to just, like, talk about this. San Junipero is an incredible episode of television that's really meaningful to a bunch of people for meaningful reasons. That's an important thing to know when wading in.

And yet i see time and time again people kind of be like "i don't get it and here's why you're wrong" and then do things like this, which is list a bunch of reasons that aren't even in the episode.

That was it. I really think there's a lot of personal baggage (the viewer's) that affect the reading of the episode. Kelly's reveal didn't seem true to character for me. Her speech about her daughter affected me greatly, and the decision to upload didn't overcome it.

From our conversation, I want to be blunt: I think you have a hyper literal way of looking at characterization and I think it impairs your ability to roll with story choices.
