I think my problem with Munich was a similar one with Inglourious Basterds: it humanized the wrong party. Except with this being a true story, it actually made the situation worse...

It's frustrating when your villains, the terrorists responsible for the Munich massacre, are more sympathetic and interesting than the Jewish Mossad agents enacting vengeance. And that might be part of the point, but then that does a disservice to the Jewish side...

It's made worse when the film then tries to build up the heroism of the Mossad agents by having the massacre keep replaying. It's conflicting and jarring to see that. Also, that sex scene at the end was infuriating...

I kind of love it, but not on first viewing, and even now being massively anti-Netanyahu I find its equivocation of the conflict quite dishonest. Just because there's blood on both sides doesn't make it impossible to call if it's a just war.
