Huh? I understand what you're saying just no what it has to do with the point.

Black Mirror is a show where each individual ep is an excellent piece of tv sci-fi, despite having a thematic conclusion that's irritatingly/inevitably/undeservedly cruel and fatalistic. But the more you watch it, the more that adds up.

Oh, Black Mirror... “Remember kids, technology is bad!.... now follow us on social media and talk about us!!!” Is my take away from it...

I wonder if it's generational. I'm a grumpy GenXer and never get tired of the "technology is horrifying" message. I think tech is great and awful at the same time and don't feel defensive when it's attacked.
-
Probably shouldn't have used the word "defensive." Didn't mean that critically. What I'm getting at is I have one foot in the pre-tech world and don't feel as personally invested in technology.

The article is weird because I always thought it was supposed to be a horror show about how technology enables the worst of humanity. With the exception of San Junipero, BM operates on a misanthropic base that people are awful and here’s how technology enables us to be The Worst.
-
Yet, the article rejects that concept as the basis for the show and complains that it’s not about something that it never was about. I’m not saying you can’t WANT it to be about humanity, but the show isn’t that.

I absolutely love your writing & disagree with this piece strongly. What you see as a (often white) male gaze I see as an indictment of male behavior. And where you see “technology ... BAAAD” I see as using tech to explore the question “what’s wrong w/ US”
-
I don’t see it indicting technology as much as indicting our impulses that use tech in this way. What’s disturbing about the show for me is how it’s often all too familiar. It speaks to some dark part of myself I’d rather not acknowledge.
