Writing rant: To each their own, but I genuinely don't understand how people can write in coffee shops.

I finished the draft of a novel while watching a World Cup game in a bar. B/C of NaNoWriMo and hosting write-in's I'm used to public space writing. It doesn't bother me but I can see why it would bother other people. As long as people are writing there isn't a right or wrong way

Some of us are at home on our own all day anyway. The feeling of being in company can help us relax to write. Friends set up Million Monkeys initative for exactly this reason. I understand the chats after writing sessions have been very productive too. http://millionmonkeys.org.uk/

I will occasionally write in a coffee shop if I'm absolutely stuck in a story hole and can't escape; a significant change of scenery can help. Otherwise 100% agree.

I work in quiet coffee shops or libraries because there's no "other room" to go to in my studio apartment next to a busy road. And it's not good to work in the same space where you sleep and relax. But yea, it would be "cheaper" to pay higher rent on a place with an office.

I can write just about anywhere if I choose to, but it's definitely easier in my designated writing spaces, where I don't even play music.

a bunch of people talking is my preferred white noise. too much silence and my brain distracts me/my ears start ringing (get on my adhd level lol)

I just like the static of people moving around, I can't do music with lyrics and the silence makes me nervous.

IMO, this applies to more than just writing. It's why an open office environment is just DEATH to any work requiring deep focus.

I dont understand how people can write in an uncomfortable space. Like, it's not your bathroom, not your kitchen. You don't have any of your own stuff. How do you write or focus when you can't be comfortable?
