I want to see it again, but I got that broken people don't get to redeem themselves by doing one good thing - (Rockwell's mission fails). But also there is room to grow and deal with grief with other broken people - (McDormand).

Even if his mission was a success, it wouldn't redeem shit. It takes a lifetime.

My takeaway was that the movie says “it doesn’t matter”. Good or bad or a mix of the two, in law or in greater karmic justice, shit is just not fair and we gotta deal with that. But that might just say more about me than what McDonagh was actually trying to say.

I feel the movie could have been titled “The Pros and Cons of Fascism in Ebbing, Missouri”. It seemed to be what it was exploring. But it also never seemed to come out and say that. I kind of liked it leaving it to us to decide, but perhaps that made it feel morally muddled.
