SW Fans: "The Force belongs to everyo-" Crazy SW Fans: "NO, THE SKYWALKERS ARE THE BEST AT THE FORCE. I IDENTIFY WITH LUKE SKYWALKER. I AM LUKE. BUT I AM SUPER SERIOUS AND BADASS AND DISAFFECTED AND IM THE GOOD GUY OF THIS STORY. IM AWESOME. I AM LUKE."

Honestly I think all the problems people are having with TLJ were created by plot decisions made in TFA. It did about as well as could be expected with what it was dealt.

It sets up all these mysteries, which were actually just bad storytelling, but which let the fans run wild trying to make a coherent story out of it for 2 years. People wanted TLJ to explain the mistakes of TFA, but they also had already decided how they thought it should be.

This. I liked TLJ a lot but I've also read well thought out criticism (i.e. I can agree that the tone was uneven), what I don't get is when the criticism is "the plot didn't advance like in my detailed speculation based off trailers and pictures from the set"

To me it’s not about what “I” thought or wanted to happen - I just wanted an interesting story, and neither TFA or TLJ provided that. Not to mention lame attempts at humor and heavy-handed economic and animal rights commentary.
