"Luke wouldn't act like that!" ... Yeah, cause Yoda didn't get batshit crazy at all in his 30 years on Dagobah. #nerdsemantics #whyamIevenarguingaboutthisitsobvious

Because the best part is he's so much more: haunted, and scarred, and kind, and silly, and brilliant, and all the things that make us complete people.

Luke lost his father because of the Jedi. Then he starts to train and he sees just how easy it is to fuck it all up. Not only does he learn through history but also by example. Of course your confidence would be shattered. Makes perfect sense to me.

Is it explained why he would go looking for the first Jedi temple if he thought it was all bullshit? Or did he go to the first Jedi temple for answers and didn't get them and then decided it was all bullshit?

The parts where he goes back into his boyish self (like when he was talking to R2, Chewie, and SPOILER) anchored his performance.

I loved those moments because they showed Luke was still Luke, just a more troubled version.

He's so 'done with this shit' it's actually endearing and makes the ending have more weight. Although I admit, I did let out a sharp, high pitched squeak of fear when he threw Anakins/his old lightsaber over his shoulder.

I would love to see a new, family film present these ideas without all the expectation baggage that star wars has.

People have a hard time dealing with change. Personally I wished that TFA was never made b/c of how it dismantles 456. However, I think TLJ does a decent job of showing the passage of time and rebuilding SW mythology with what it was given by TFA.

Luke at the end of the day was the kid from Tatooine. I loved how it showed that at the end he was STILL LUKE. Not some Legendary Hero, but a person.

I'll take conflicted cynical badass Luke over "Paste-your-face-here protagonist" Luke anyday.

Right. Luke can be a good student and end up having faults as a teacher https://tinyurl.com/yd8roo52
