I'm thinking of this specifically because @Linkara19 did a great breakdown of older Star Trek series' problems in his newest review.
Besides the whole "racism is over!!" thing (um, except for all that colonization going on), the sexual orientation comment had me lol-ing.
YEAH, no need to talk about sexual orientation in Star Trek... cause queer people just don't exist, apparently. PROBLEM SOLVED.
I'm lucky enough that all the ST fans I'm friends with/follow on here are very good about analyzing the shows' and movies' flaws.
And I stand by my statement that the guy was responding to, that future Star Trek projects must include marginalized writers/creators
Thoughtful, smart science fiction that will stand the test of time does best when marginalized people are part of its creation
Because as good as even 90s TNG was, there are PLENTY of episodes people cringe at in terms of race, gender, and sexual orientation
Anyway, your faves in sci fi has problems, let's work to make better things inspired by your fave things.
RIGHT. THERE IS A CRUCIAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SPIRIT OF SOMETHING AND THE EXECUTION OF SOMETHING.
