FLCL is wild even when you're much more familiar with anime, it's...unique, almost, though other works by the same team echo it. It was also way more popular in North America than in Japan, to the point where a few years ago Toonami bankrolled two sequels to it.

Another awesome essay, glad you enjoyed it! FLCL is an oddball even within animesphere

I suggest the novels, though they're long out of print and may be expensive. The first line sets up the series wonderfully: "This story has the potential to be considerably embarrassing for Naota."

First time watching FLCL? Brilliant. Kicked ass then, kiss ass now. Gotta check this piece out, and I still want to go back and rewatch the sequel series too, give them another shot.

The manga adaptation sucks, though.

I suppose if you are running the gamut of Adult Swim Action Anime next up would be Trigun, another staple of the channel.

Though that one hasn’t really had the same staying power in fandom. (My vote remains Utena, all the more so with the “puberty art” commentary.)

This is the kinda stuff I used to love the old gainax for. Not always great, but never boring. (Flcl is great btw)
