There's a lot of promising stuff in this one - some of my favorite things the MCU has done in years! But it dissolves into a bevy of all too familiar structure problems... It's time for: BLACK WIDOW and the Latent Last Act Blues <3https://www.patreon.com/posts/53567787

All the stuff you're speaking it is classic Hollywood structure stuff. Like, in the same way I didn't need to see Harry Lime meet our hero in the first act, I didn't need to see Dreykov. His presence was felt. Also a classic Hollywood structure. It was more than enough for me...

Or Harbour's character arc. We get that moment of what his family actually did mean for him when he strips the ego away. It wasn't a big third act moment because it didn't need to be, because he's not one of the mains. It was in his singing the song...

For a character like that, an action like that, to let his guard down for even a moment, is huge. And it feels far more grounded and real in that moment than any big moment he could have had in the third act. I'll keep reading, but so far I'm not sold on your reasoning haha

A looooooooootta folks felt let down by that last act. I just went into why that was. And trying to drop in harry lime / mystery structure as an excuse (which is relying on about forty other dramatic mechanisms) is apples to oranges. Set ups and payoffs aren't just classic h-wood

I understand. I get where you're coming from, I just disagree. Everything paid off for me in both emotional and logical ways. We are allowed to disagree.

It's not an excuse. It's another example of why it's not always necessary to see a character until the third act. I can pick other examples as well... not that we don't see him earlier, we do in Black Widow. But that's before he's presumed dead. Still, the entire time we...
