As a video editor who's been working full-time for NBC Universal for 5 years, yet can't get into the editing union because they don't count hours put toward digital content for the roster, I can't say I'm that mad.
-
The unions are great for the people in them, but for those of us who didn't grow up in CA, without connections into film and television, they just act as gatekeepers.

I suspect this is a major reason Producers are forming a union.

Mention that in the column!

I am in the middle of reading it and curious if you listen to Deakins’ podcast? I personally feel it is the best podcast that discuss the jobs and people less talked about and your article brought it to attention as well.
-
It's been on my list!

I thought about this when Donald Glover was whinging about woke culture to blame for movies not taking chances anymore. I doubt woke culture has much to do with it. Literally the consolidation of all studios is.
-
Keep in mind he was very likely doing a purposeful / fun play on words there cause he was talking about literal cancelling, which isn't to shy away from criticizing the pot-stirring - but it's not exactly anti-woke culture dude
