I really want to watch Nomadland.

(1/2) Wow Hulk....I questioned and grappled with so much of what you were discussing throughout my own travels of reading this piece, only to find out that ended up being precisely the point! Bravo. Might be one of your best pieces of film criticism in a long time!

(2/2) However, this interaction I recently had on here with a member of the Lakota whose cousin was on the set of Songs My Brothers Taught Me was at the forefront of my mind while reading. Just some further extrapolation on what happens after filmmakers like Zhao leave.pic.twitter.com/N31zae1v4P

Great piece about a movie I liked very much but shared many of your questions about. The reductive discussion around it has been maddening but then, my mind just doesn’t work that way. You also articulated several reasons why I thought MINARI was a lot stronger.
-
Indeed I like it too! Just had a lot of questions :)

My gf had read the book but I hadn’t when we watched, and our reactions were very different. She was mad not just about Amazon softpedalling but also the beet farming. And she was really upset that they kill a character in the movie that is still alive in reality.

I want to start by saying this has to be my favorite essay I’ve read of yours so far, it brings up so many of the things my spouse and I discuss all the time. Apologies in advance for how long this’ll be.

My first thing is a bit of an aside, but I’ve never completely seen it plainly stated the wealth disparity in Hollywood, and for a second made me question why the music industry doesn’t seem to be AS BAD.
