Dunno, I spent 8 hours on it, couldn't even get past the first miniboss. Tried different controller options, using the keyboard, etc and ended up being extremely frustrated, like I wasted $60 on a game I will never be able to finish.

I mean, it's all pretty and well acted and the world looks gorgeous, but it's inaccessible. The controls are hobbled by design (target locking), there's no difficulty setting: this is a giant middle finger to people who, you know, just want to enjoy a game?

I know, but this is the whole thing - that's not what it's designed to be. And in a world where 92% of the games that are made are for people who "just want to enjoy a game" there's something special about a studio that makes really fun challenging ones. And I mean it when I say

I enjoyed it more than any other game I've played in years. Also once I got disciplined enough to really get the parry thing down, I realized it's the best control scheme ever. And target locking is CRITICAL to how it works.

It's totally okay to want a different kind of game - but I wouldn't want THIS game to be anything else.

I feel like this is a false choice. You can offer both options, make the game accessible to most without lowering the reward of "beating the game on nightmare mode". This attitude feels exclusionary ("you must be this good to be in the club"), and a terrible business choice?

I promise you it's not. There's a reason these games are incredibly successful and so many people adore them. Some do not. I know this. But other games try to split the difference of difficulty (fallen order) and end up languishing.

And i'm telling you man, it's not exclusionary. I come at this with open arms. If I can beat this game (i'm really not that good) most anyone can. You just get used to how the controls marry with the combat. I remember the exact moment it clicked.

And more over, the feeling of commiseration I had when I did my twitter thread on it was one of the most lovely communal experiences I've had on this site. So little of the "git good" - so much more helping and understanding coaching all together.

I remember that, it's what pushed me to buy the game...
