There are so many movies that I think have good taste. That understand how a certain move or shot will have an effect on an audience. That know how to reference things I like. That can crest on fun vibes. But my kingdom for something that knows how to create baseline tension.

For modern movies, Hereditary is just a gigantic slow build-up of tension for an enormous, off-the-wall pay-off at the end. Like spending 2/3 of the run-time climbing the first hill of a roller-coaster but not knowing when you'll crest and finally descend.

I like Hereditary, but the payoff is like a wet fart. The ending totally ruins what would otherwise be a great movie.
